BroadLight, supplier of Gigabit Passive Optical Network, or “GPON,” semiconductors, has partnered with Jungo Ltd., a residential gateway software supplier, to provide an advanced platform for GPON residential gateways.

Both companies have integrated Jungo’s (News - Alert) OpenRG residential gateway software with BroadLight’s BL2348 GPON System-on-Chip to deliver a GPON gateway reference platform that enables service providers to offer their customers high-speed broadband access and advanced digital home services over fiber networks.

According to Doron Tal, vice president of Business Development and Product Management at BroadLight, their collaboration with Jungo has produced a versatile platform for the development of cost-effective residential gateways that connect the high-speed digital home to FTTH services.

“Combining the superior flexibility and performance of the BL2348 SoC with Jungo's field-proven OpenRG gateway middleware enables us to deliver a complete, ready-to-deploy GPON gateway platform for service providers,” said Tal.

The new GPON gateway reference platform allows service providers to accelerate the introduction of fiber-to-the-home, or “FTTH,” services and benefit from increased ARPU while reducing gateway development costs.

When the BL2348 integrated network processor, or “NP,” is combined with the OpenRG middleware’s open, modular architecture, gateway manufacturers and service providers are provided with flexibility in bringing customized products to the market.

The GPON residential gateway platform from Jungo and Broadlight (News - Alert) offers intelligent data routing with quality of service, or “QoS,” carrier-class VoIP, IPv6 support and virtual private networks with firewalls. The platform also provides seamless support for multiple LAN technologies like Ethernet, USB and WiFi (News - Alert).

According to Eran Rom, CEO of Jungo, fiber networks enable service providers to increase ARPU with a range of high-bandwidth digital home services, while at the same time requiring sophisticated CPE in subscribers’ homes.

“This partnership further emphasizes Jungo’s ability to supply service providers with best-in-class uniform middleware for their entire home gateway installed base, on all chosen hardware platforms and network technologies,” said Rom.
